Avery Hood is reeling from the loss of her parents--and the fact that she can't remember what happened to them even though she was there.

She's struggling to adjust to life without them, and to living with her grandmother, when she meets Ben, who isn't like any guy she's ever met before.

It turns out there's a reason why, and Ben's secret may hold the key to Avery finding out what happened to her parents...

But what if that secret changes everything she knows about--and feels for--Ben?

Review:

Low Red Moon was an enthralling and interesting paranormal debut and I'm excited to read more by Ivy Devlin in the future.

To begin with, the main character, Avery, was an intriguing and likable heroine and my heart went out to her from the start. After her parents are gruesomely murdered, Avery moves in with her Grandmother- a woman she barely knows. I understood Avery's pain and suffering, and her situation was so sad. Her life in the woods with her parents had been everything to her, and now she had to start all over. Luckily, her grandmother was a sweet and determined lady and she only wanted the best for Avery.

The mystery angle was very suspenseful and I was constantly trying to figure out what really happened the night of her parents' murder. A few clues are tossed around, but the mystery isn't solved until the end. I also liked the werewolf aspect. Ivy Devlin really made it her own and I liked learning about werewolves in a new and intriguing way.

Low Red Moon was also very romantic. I enjoyed watching Avery and Ben's relationship grow into something meaningful, and the forbidden aspect of it made the story all the more captivating.

Part romance, part murder mystery, and part paranormal; Low Red Moon will surely enrapture many readers and I'm excited to see what she writes next. Possibly a sequel to this?

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

  1. Great review :) I really like what you said about the cover being different from all the other paranormals out there. They all look alike now! I mean, some I like, but most of them are all girls wearing these gorgeous dresses that really don't fit in the story at all. :(

But I do love this cover! I like the colors a lot!

  2. I heard the finished copy is beautiful. I have to agree with you and Savannah all the paranormal covers are starting to all blend in with each other. When I go to the store all I see are black books and its hard to find the one I'm looking for. Your review is amazing to by the way. Simple and short and right to the point.

  4. The book really reminds me of Need by Carrie Jones. Living with grandma, the wolves, romance... I hope the Little Red Ridinghood aspect shines out to make the stories different.
