Guest Post: Lisa and Laura Roecker Blog Tour of Awesome!

Stopping by today are the fabulous and fun Roecker sisters- the authors of the fantastic debut The Liar Society! Read on to find out about their top ten favorite movies... many of which I also love! (*cough* Sixteen Candles *cough*)

LiLa's FAVE MOVIES!

1.Sixteen Candles (or really any John Hughes movie). Is there a more appropriate choice for number 1? We think not. We like to think Sam and Kate would be BFFs. If nothing else they both hate to ride the bus.

2. Garden State. Oh the music! The actors! The love story!

3. Ten Things I Hate About You. Heath Ledger is so dreamy in this movie. We'll always remember him singing on those bleachers.

4. Away We Go. This movie was written for Laura and yet she hasn't seen it. This is Lisa's all-time fave.

5.Can't Hardly Wait. Epic party? Multiple storylines? High school? Yes. Please.

6.Anchorman, Elf, Old School, Blades of Glory--basically anything starring Will Ferrell. Yes, if you've seen one, you've seen them all. But they're ALL funny.

7.The Social Network. This movie is fascinating and the dialogue is SPOT ON.

8.Shawshank Redemption. Solid movie. Laura always watches if it's on. Lisa thinks she's weird.

9.The Sixth Sense. Really freaking scary, but really, really good. The twist in this movie is genius.

10.Center Stage. Lisa's dirty little secret. It must have been all those years of bad ballet dancing.

Introducing 2011: Lisa and Laura Roecker

Lisa and Laura's debut novel, LIAR SOCIETY, will be published by Sourcebooks Fire in March 2011!

1. What are the pros and cons of writing together?

The best part about writing together is if you ever get stuck on a chapter or a particular scene, you can ship the document off to your partner. That way, you never end up with writer's block. Also, I love being both a reader and a writer. It kind of feels like a Choose Your Own Adventure book every time we write something new--you never know what's coming! One of the most difficult parts about writing together is the beginning stages--the creation of an outline. Lisa always gets really annoyed at me when we're brainstorming because all I ever do is ask questions, poking holes in her plot ideas. It's a totally necessary step, but it comes with a whole lot of eye rolling and heavy sighing.

2. In what ways do you relate to Kate, your main character in Liar Society?

Kate is who we wish we could have been in high school. Basically, she's a cooler version of ourselves. She's confident and snarky and independent. She also isn't your typical boy crazy-I'll-die-if-we-aren't-together type of gal. This definitely comes from our mom (aka the Regulator) who drilled into us throughout high school that boys are kind of like accessories. They're fun, but you don't really NEED them. We tend to agree.

3. What was your reaction to finding out Liar Society was going to be published?

Honestly, we laughed. We were so excited, anxious, overwhelmed, etc. that the only thing left to do was laugh. There might have been some jumping up and down as well. And to this day it feels very surreal to think that next year, there will be a book on the shelves with our names on it!

4. Liar Society has gone through quite a title evolution, how did you finally decide on this one?

We really, really suck at titles. Laura kept a list and Lisa would text her title ideas whenever they popped up. We randomly decided to email our editors our most recent selections and threw LIAR SOCIETY out there as an option--we can't even remember how it ended up on the list. He emailed back using the word "genius" so we knew we were on to something. I guess it was a little like fate.

5. What's next for you writing wise?

Right now we're about three-quarters of the way through the second book in the LIAR SOCIETY series. We also have a new idea for a series that we'd love to start working on after we finish book 2. We're excited to take a break from the series with a new project and return with fresh eyes.
