Top Ten Tuesday (6)

Top Ten Favorite New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2012

1. Michelle Hodkin

I don't know why it took me so long to read the Mara Dyer books-- they are incredible! I devoured The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer in one day and am now about halfway through the sequel. Michelle is a fantastic writer and her mind works in the most twisted and intriguing ways!

2. Ruta Sepetys

I still haven't read Between Shades of Gray, even though I have heard wonderful things about it, but it is up soon on my TBR pile. I did read Out of the Easy though, and loved it! The characters and setting were so well-developed and I can remember almost every detail from the book. I love Ruta's writing style!

3. Megan McCafferty

Ah, my love for the Jessica Darling series is only continuing to grow. I've only read the first two books this year, but I just purchased the third and can't wait to finish this series. I love Jessica and she is such a real character. I had read one other book by Megan before, Bumped, but I'm including her on this list because of how happy I am I truly discovered her original series this year!

4. Tabitha Suzuma

Forbidden broke my heart over and over again and left me feeling so emotional for days after. I still find myself thinking about it and can't wait to read Tabitha's next book. She is a brilliant writer and tackles controversial and intense issues in a heartfelt and amazing way.

5. F. Scott Fitzgerald

I am so, so glad I read The Great Gatsby this year because it is now one of my favorite books. I am eager to pick up more by Fitzgerald and to read The Great Gatsby again before going to see the film coming out next year!

6. Kirsten Hubbard

I read Kirsten's sophomore novel, Wanderlove, earlier this year and adored it. I loved the characters and the setting was so unique and awe-inspiring. I've heard nothing but good things about Kirsten's debut novel, Like Mandarin, and even though I haven't read it I plan on doing so soon!

7. Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me is definitely on the best books I've read this year. I can't believe it was Tahereh's debut novel! The writing was beautiful and heart-wrenching and I am dying to get my hands on a copy of the sequel!

8. Beth Revis

Across the Universe was another fantastic start to a series that I read this year. I haven't had a chance to start the sequels yet, but I have high hopes for them! Across the Universe was brilliant and I enjoyed it immensely.

9. Daisy Whitney

I read two of Daisy's books this year: The Mockingbirds and The Rivals and I loved both! It is a very creative and original series and I am anxious to read more by Daisy in the future!

10. Vladimir Nabokov

Another classic author! I read Lolita for my senior research paper and wow! It was a frightening and complex novel that I won't soon forget.

What were some YA authors you discovered this year?

  1. I too read McCafferty for the first time this year, but she didn't make my list. Love that you enjoyed Fitzgerald, too. Thanks for sharing your list!
