Review:

I read Shade awhile back and it has taken me way too long to read Shift! I adored Shade and it was one of my favorite reads of the year, so it was no surprise to me how much I LOVED this sequel! Shift was just as amazing, if not better, than Shade and I cannot wait to dive into the third (and final *sniff*) book in the series.

Aura is one of my favorite characters because she is so real and likable. Her personality shines from the pages and she is not afraid to be herself. All of the characters in this series are well-developed and realistic. From Aunt Gina to Dylan-- I loved getting to know each of them even more in this addition to the series. Aura does not have things easy in Shift and I felt for all she was dealing with. There were a lot of new plot twists and developments that made certain this book did not suffer from second-book syndrome.

Shift didn't at all feel like a filler book, as second books in a series often do. Instead, it was action-packed and exciting; just like Shade. It was hard to set this one down because so much was happening and I was eager to see how things would turn out. I don't want to talk too much about the plot because I don't want to spoil anything-- but let me tell you, you will not be disappointed!

I felt extremely attached to all of the characters going into Shift, so at times I got pretty emotional! This book certainly wrenched my heart a few times and by the end I was tearing up. No one in this book has it easy, especially as a lot of new mysteries are revealed and all of the characters must face new challenges. The guys are back and better than ever. Both Logan and Zachary were developed quite a bit in Shift and my heart went out to both of them, but I have to say I have a soft spot for Zach.

If you read Shade I highly encourage you to pick this one up! It was a fabulous sequel that proved just how great of a writer Jeri Smith-Ready is. This has become one of my favorite YA series and I can't wait to se what happens in Shine (which I will be buying ASAP!). I stayed up until 2 AM reading Shift and I was an emotional mess by the time I turned the last page. This is a series that will grab the reader and have them totally invested in the characters and their story. Although I am excited to read Shine, I am sad to know this series is coming to an end because I love it so much. I wish these books were getting more attention because they are fantastic and if you haven't read Shade yet, what are you waiting for? Start it now!

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

  1. I totally agree about this not being a filler book-that was one of the reasons I was so impressed with it. It was a good book that was actually important to the series!
