Review: Forgotten by Cat Patrick (and Giveaway!)

Forgotten by Cat Patrick
Each night when 16 year-old London Lane goes to sleep, her whole world disappears. In the morning, all that's left is a note telling her about a day she can't remember. The whole scenario doesn't exactly make high school or dating that hot guy whose name she can't seem to recall any easier. But when London starts experiencing disturbing visions she can't make sense of, she realizes it's time to learn a little more about the past she keeps forgetting-before it destroys her future.

Part psychological drama, part romance, and part mystery, this thought-provoking novel will inspire readers to consider the what-if's in their own lives and recognize the power they have to control their destinies.

Review:

Forgotten was a unique and captivating debut novel that I have been dying to read for a long time. With a gorgeous cover, an intriguing premise, and great recommendations from other authors I was so excited to start this. It did not disappoint and I was soon caught up in London’s story.

The premise of Forgotten was so different from any other book I’ve ever read. London’s mind gets wiped clean at 4:33 AM every morning and she can’t remember anything except the future. Luckily, she was able to make it through day to day life and even attend school because of notes she kept every evening to look over the next day. Some people compare this book to 50 First Dates and I guess, in a way, it is similar, but Patrick truly made this her own story.

London Lane was protagonist many readers will like and care about and I found myself really relating to her even though I have never gone through what she had. Her struggles and heartache made me want to help her any way I could. From drama with her mom, her broken friendship with her best friend, and no idea about the mysterious dreams she keeps happening. Good thing she had the cute new boy Luke to distract her.

Luke was a sweet guy, but I think their relationship came on a little fast and seemed a little too perfect. I did like them though and he obviously cared a lot for London. There were a few other secondary characters, but the book mainly focused on London and Luke, as well as London’s struggles with her memory loss.

There were a lot of plot twists that surprised me and kept me glued to the pages. I liked the short chapters, although that made it even harder to put down!

Cat Patrick’s debut novel was highly original and the premise kept me hooked. There was a mystery thrown in and I had a hard time setting this down for a second. Although there were some things that didn’t live up to my expectations and the ending felt a little…abrupt, I overall enjoyed this and can’t wait to see what’s next for Cat! Particularly if it’s something involving Luke and London!

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
