Review: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie's always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours, but still. Normal.

Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie's dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
 So much for normal.
Review:

The hype surrounding Paranormalcy was all correct- it was an exciting, original, and romantic debut that I had a hard time putting down!

To start off, Evie was a kick butt heroine. She never backed down from a challenge and was so brave and determined throughout the novel. I really felt for her- she didn't know anything about her past and spent all of her time bagging and tagging for the IPCA (International Paranormal Containment Agency). On top of being in control of her awesome pink taser, Tasey, and being able to take down vamps and werewolves, Evie was a sweet and caring girl who just wanted a normal life. Her bubbly, sarcastic, and outgoing personalty shown from the pages. Even in the most dire circumstances Evie could bring a smile to my face.

I think my favorite part of the novel was the plot. It was so original and unique that it drew me in right away. The idea of IPCA was so interesting and I was fascinated by their work, even if I didn't always agree with it and how they treated paranormals. The idea that werewolves, vampires, hags, and other creatures were at large in present day was frightening, yet really neat. Kiersten introduced so many different creatures I loved hearing about every one. This was completely different than any other paranormal book I've read and I can't wait to see where she takes it in Supernaturally!

The romance aspect was so well developed and I just adored Lend. As a shapeshifter he could take the form of anyone, but Evie loved him for who he really was. Readers get to experience their relationship from the first meeting and I loved every scene where they were together. Lend was so protective of Evie and they truly loved each other.

Murders are occurring so everything isn't always fun and games. Paranormals are being murdered and a certain faerie ex boyfriend is after Evie for reasons he won't tell her. There are a lot of twists and turns in the plot and the ending didn't tie up everything...so now I need the sequel to find out more!

Overall, Paranormalcy was a fast paced and exciting debut with an awesome main character, original plot, and sweet romance. I can't wait to read more by Kiersten White!

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

  4. I keep hearing how amazing this book is, but for some reason it doesn't interest me much. I guess I'll have to give in eventually and give it a chance. I'll probably end up loving it. Great review.

  7. I loved Kiersten's writing and thought Evie was a great kick butt character, however I just never fully connected to any of the characters. Okay, I connected with Reth and I have no idea why, really his riddles and lack of explaining to Evie had me on edge.
