Beautiful Dead: Book Two- Arizona by Eden Maguire
Publisher: Sourcebooks
Release date: October 1, 2010

Other books in the series: Jonas, Summer, and Phoenix
There's been no sign of the Beautiful Dead for weeks. Darina achingly misses Phoenix all over again. But surely he will return with the rest of the Beautiful Dead as so much still remains unresolved. It's been ten months since Arizona drowned in Hartmann Lake. Suicide, it would seem. But something doesn't add up.
Drowning herself in a hidden - away lake does not sound like strong, confident, Arizona: Ellerton High School's high-maintenance drama queen. Darina needs to help Arizona the way she helped Jonas. But time is running out...

Review:

This was a great second installment in the Beautiful Dead series. It was filled with new plot twists and I discovered a lot more about certain characters.

Considering this novel focused on Arizona, it was great to be able to read more about her history. There was so much going on in her life that I didn't know about, and it really made me understand and like her more. Learning about all of Arizona's secrets was surprising and the mystery surrounding her death kept me guessing all the way to the end. I never saw that coming!

These books are always filled with suspense and excitement. I'm constantly on the edge of my seat and wondering what's going to happen next. The plot of this series is so unique and I love being able to experience everything with Darina. She is a head strong and independent main character, and works so hard to make sure all the Beautiful Dead are safe. Her relationship with Phoenix is stronger than ever and their connection is amazing. A lot of new characters are introduced in this book, many of which I liked. Raven was especially great. I'd never read about someone with his condition before and his relationship with Arizona was heartbreaking.

Eden Maguire has a great writing style and I had a hard time putting this down once I'd gotten into it. There are so many plot twists and this series is so different from anything I've read before.

I definitely recommend picking this series up. It may not be for everyone, but I do enjoy it, and you can understand what's going on even if you haven't read the first book. Beautiful Dead is an original and suspenseful series and I can't wait to read book three (Summer)!

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

  1. I thought this was a good book, but didn't it remind you a little too much of its first book? Well, duh, but, like, plot wise, and twist wise.
